Why is the diaphragm of a diaphragm pump easily damaged?

Diaphragm life times generally in 8 million ~ 20 million times, if used correctly, according to the minimum value can be used continuously 1000 hours ~ 3000 hours or so, in actual use diaphragm pump diaphragm often damaged.


In the process of import and export of materials, the diaphragm left and right sides are subjected to forces up to 4800kN, due to the role of continuous alternating forces, making the diaphragm prone to damage cracking, the diaphragm is prone to damage for the following reasons.

Diaphragm chamber air is not exhausted, the volume of gas changes with the change in propellant pressure, forming a gas hammer, the local force on the diaphragm increases, breaking the diaphragm.

As the volume of the diaphragm chamber is certain, if the feed is unstable and the pressure is low, so that the material level of the feed compensator is lower than 1. 2m, the material level in the pressure stabilization device is not normal, when the pump is feeding, the slurry in the pump separates to form a gap, resulting in lack of material, emptying the pump, producing hammering or impact or even cavitation, so that the diaphragm is subjected to increased variable stress, increased frequency, resulting in fatigue damage or breakdown of the diaphragm.

The feed contains 3-8mm stones or large pieces of material, or the percentage of solids in the slurry exceeds 2% by mass, which will cause the valve to be stuck, resulting in fluctuations in pump pressure, leading to an instantaneous increase in force on the diaphragm; causing rupture.

Feed temperature exceeds the specified 100°C, accelerating diaphragm aging, while the slurry produces vapour bubbles, gas into the diaphragm chamber or unloading valve leakage, the propulsion fluid pressure is reduced, these may cause uneven force on the diaphragm, fatigue damage.

Diaphragm chamber feeding and discharging is controlled by the probe detecting the position signal of the control rod, if the magnetic ring on the control rod is weak, the probe cannot detect the signal and cannot make up the oil discharge in time, resulting in the rupture of the diaphragm due to excessive force on one side.

Support sleeve for diaphragm control rod is seriously worn, so that the control rod eccentric, sinking, diaphragm force increases, easy to pull the diaphragm.

Differential pressure in the unit, causing the diaphragm pump to over pressure and instantaneous pressure increase will causing diaphragm rupture.

Loose cross heads, pistons or cylinder liners, incorrectly installed cross head guides or cross head bearings, etc., can cause hammering of the pistons, which can make the hydraulic force unbalanced; frequent pump jumps can also cause the diaphragm to reach its limit of instantaneous force, resulting in diaphragm rupture.
